Who Will Win The 2018 World Cup?

What a tournament it’s been so far – we’ve had massive upsets, amazing goals, and of course VAR. Often, World Cups can be a bit of a let down, but this can’t be said for the 2018 World Cup. With the final four now decided, who will win the 2018 World Cup?

France, Belgium, England and Croatia have all made it to the semi finals, after disposing of Uruguay, Brazil, Sweden and Russia in their respective semi finals. The World Cup 2018 Winner will be determined next Sunday 15th July – who is most likely to be there?

France have Kylian Mbappe to thank for their emphatic win over Argentina, with the 19 year old striker taking the tournament by storm with his pace, work-rate and finishing (check him out against Argentina below)

Scoring 10 goals and conceding 4, France have shown how lethal they can be with the likes of Pogba, Matiudi, Giroud and Griezmann all posting a constant threat, meaning Belgium will have their work cut out in the Semi Final. It will be a tough tie, but I reckon Belgium will edge this one.

Belgium – When you look at their players in the squad… how can they not win it? Lukaku, Hazard, De Bruyne, Kompany, Courtois… the list goes on. They’ve steamrolled anyone who has got in their way, most recently the demolition of Brazil in the quarter final. (highlights below)

They did have a wobble against Japan in the 2nd round, going 2-0 down before staging a dramatic comeback to win 3-2, showing they’ve got the fighting spirit when they need it. When they break on the attack, they’re so difficult to defend against- I can’t see France stopping them. Belgium to make it to the final for me.

England¬†ITS COMING HOME! (had to be done!). England are in the semis, having a fairly easy route so far, so it will be interesting to see how they do against a tough, clever team like Croatia. Harry Kane is the tournament’s leading scorer, however he’s hardly had tough opposition in the likes of Tunisia and Panama where he got most of his goals. Gareth Southgate has rejuvenated the squad with his attention to detail, however England have been wasteful infront of goal, something that could come back to haunt them. Against Sweden, Sterling missed a load of chances to finish the game – when really they need to be burying them.

In case you’re not sick already of hearing ‘ITS COMING HOME’… here it is again for you:

Croatia – The Dark horses of the tournament, however when you look at their squad; they’ve got really good players in the likes of Modric, Rakitic and Mandzukic. Having been to penalties a few times, they’ve shown bottle when they need to, and of course showed how lethal they can be when they beat Argentina 3-0 earlier in the tournament:

Croatia will be the first quality team England will have come up against, and will pose a more technical threat with their clever midfield players. I fully expect them to score and cause England problems, it’s a real tough one to call. If it goes to pens, then Croatia will make it through to the final.

Final prediction: Belgium v Croatia. I wonder what odds you’d have got on that at the start of the tournament? We’ve seen Germany, Spain, Brazil and Argentina get knocked out, and now we’re nearly at the end of this amazing tournament. Belgium have to be the favourites to win it now, they’ve got the best players overall, but can you really imagine Roberto Martinez lifting the trophy?! Who do you think will win?
