Italian international striker Luca Toni is set to move back to his homeland by joining AS Roma on loan from Bayern Munich in January.
The 32 year-old has fallen out with Bayern coach Louis van Gaal and vowed never to play under the Ducthman's stewardship.
But with the World Cup approaching, Toni has been seeking a new club to get games under his belt to try and secure his place with the Azzurri in South Africa next summer.
Roma seem set secure his signature, with Toni's international colleagues Francesco Totti and Daniele de Rossi playing their part in persuade their friend that joining the giallorossi will be his best option.
Bayern have agreed to allow the Italian to leave for nothing, but due to financial constraints at the capital club, Roma will take the striker on loan until the end of the season and pay his 3 million euro salary until then.
