Shevchenko uses football brain to save Geoff Shreeves!

Former Chelsea and AC Milan hitman Andriy Shevchenko recently used the anticipation and quickness of thought which used to make him such a deadly goalscorer, to save the life of Sky Sports' very own Geoff Shreeves!

The Sky Sports interviewer was filming a piece on 'Sheva' ahead of his 100th UEFA Champions League appearance against Barcelona on Wednesday night, and the Dynamo Kiev forward was happily chauffeuring Shreeves around the Ukrainian capital.

Then, without warning, a female motorist decided to perform a u-turn across several lanes, at which point Shreeves says in his blog on skysports.com: "At that moment I got a first-hand, and rather painful up-close lesson in what separates top sportsman from the rest of us.

"He spotted the potential danger, he evaluated the situation, he took action, all in a split-second.

Instead of smashing his Porsche full on into the drivers' side of the lady's car he swiftly veered hard left so we clipped the front end of her car and then through oncoming traffic. It was all over before I knew what was happening.
"

This impressive act of putting your football skills to good use in order to save lives got us here at ExtraFootie thinking, which makes a nice change. How else could footballers translate their skills from the football pitch to a life threatening situation?

If someone accidentally dropped a baby from a balcony, Iker Casillas could spring into action and make the save, although hopefully instinct won't take over as he might then drop kick the baby upfield.

If there is a sniper ready to take out Barack Obama, the US government could hire Steven Gerrard to hit a 90 yard ball through the window, knocking the gunman unconscious.

Finally, there is a hostage situation and terrorists have kidnapped the entire Chelsea first team. As a distraction, Didier Drogba falls to the ground in apparent agony, and as the terrorists check on him Ray Wilkins blinds them with his shiny head and Carlo Ancelotti judo chops the guns out of their hands.
