Bayern Munich came back from a goal down against Juventus to reach the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League as they romped to a 4-1 victory at the Stadio Olimpico di Turin.
Under-fire Bayern coach Louis van Gaal took his troops to Turin knowing only a win would suffice and also in the knowledge that the Bianconeri had not been beaten on home turf in Europe for five years!
Things looked ominous for the Bavarian giants when David Trezeguet scored his first UEFA Champions League goal in over two years 11 minutes in - sweeping home Claudio Marchisio's delightful cross from the edge of the area.
But the response from Bayern was impressive and they were soon back on level terms via the spot-kick heroics of their goalkeeper, Hans-Jorg Butt.
You may remember he is the penalty kick taking extraordinare who has become somewhat of a YouTube phenom after he scored from the spot for former side Bayer Leverkusen only for Schalke to equalise straight from kick-off as he was on his way back!
Penalty maestro Butt stepped up to send Gianluigi Buffon the wrong way with the coolest of finishes to restore parity after the menacing Ivica Olic had been felled by Martin Caceres inside the Juve penalty area.
It was unbelievably the German shot-stopper's third goal against the Italians and his third goal in the UEFA Champions League!
Bayern finished the half on top and Juve boss Ciro Ferrara was clearly feeling the pressure as he replaced talisman Alessandro Del Piero with Danish midfielder Christian Poulsen at the interval in a tactical reshuffle.
But Ferrara's tactics backfired in spectacular fashion as Bayern picked up where they left off and they soon had the lead they craved when Olic pounced on a parried Daniel van Buyten header to slam home in the 51st minute.
Ferrara's last roll of the dice saw the introducion of attacking substitutes Amauri and Sebastien Giovinco, but Bayern remained the better side and put the result beyond doubt when £26million recruit Mario Gomez netted his first European goal of the season.
And there was still time fourth as Van Gaal's defensive substitution Anatoliy Tymoshchuk drilled home in injury time to rub salt into Juve's already gaping wounds and give some much need breathing space to the under pressure Van Gaal.
Bayern now march into the next phase of Europe's elite competition as runners-up of Group A, while the Old Lady must now settle for a place in the Europa League after finishing third.
In the other match, Bordeaux made sure they remained unbeaten in Group A with a narrow 1-0 win over Maccabi Haifa in Israel as Brazilian winger Jussie slammed home emphatically after good work down the right by Abdou Traore.
