CSKA Moscow duo Aleksei Berezutskiy and Sergei Ignashevich have been provisionally suspended from all domestic and European games after both testing positive for a banned substance.
The defenders underwent a random doping test after CSKA had secured a 3-3 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford in the UEFA Champions League Group B clash on November 3rd.
Both samples revealed the presence of a prohibited substance under the category 'S6. Stimulants' from the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List 2009.
It is believed Berezutskiy, 27, and Ignashevich, 30, both regulars for the Russian national team, took common cold remedy Sudafed without notifying officials and although it is not a banned substance, UEFA need to be be told when players are using it.
Both defenders will now be forced to miss CSKA's crucial UEFA Champions League clash against Besiktas in Istanbul on Tuesday evening, while they have been provisionally banned from playing in any friendly or competitive fixtures.
The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body will meet to discuss the case further on Thursday 17th December.
