Inter Milan coach Jose Mourinho will be shown the door at the San Siro should he fail to navigate his side through to the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League.Inter host Russian champions Rubin Kazan on Wednesday evening in a make-or-break Group F UEFA Champions League clash.
The
Nerazzurri currently have six points from five matches and sit joint-second alongside the
Rubinovye, two points behind leaders Barcelona, and one ahead of bottom place Dynamo Kiev.
Inter must beat Rubin at the San Siro to guarantee qualification, however should they fail to win, a 0-0 or 1-1 draw will suffice
should Dynamo Kiev fail to beat mighty Barcelona at home. Complicated stuff!
Having lost for the second time this season to
Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico di Turin on Saturday night, former Inter legend Sandro Mazzola believes president Massimo Moratti could well show the 'Special One' the door if they fail to reach the last 16.
"If Inter are eliminated from the Champions League against Rubin Kazan then Jose Mourinho will go at the end of the year," Mazzola told
Radio Anchio Lo Sport.
"I think he would rescind his contract himself if Inter fail to win the Champions League and go out in this fashion. However, it would be different if they lost a final to Manchester United or Barcelona for example,” he added.
Mazzola however, was keen to play down suggestions that Moratti and Mourinho do not see eye-to-eye in the wake of growing speculation of a rift between the pair.
"I cannot see a crisis between Mourinho and the directors or the president," he said.
"From what I know there has not been any arguments."Should Mourinho be given the axe he will become hot property with Manchester City and Liverpool among the clubs likely to be linked with the Portuguese tactician given the recent uncertainty surrounding the futures of Mark Hughes and Rafa Benitez respectively.
