Rooney snoozes through World Cup draw!

While the nation was glued to their television sets for the World Cup draw on Friday, eagerly awaiting the Three Lions' fate, Wayne Rooney has admitted he was curled up in bed having a nap!

All eyes were on Cape Town as David Beckham played his part in the live draw for next summer's tournament, but Rooney has revealed he was catching some Zs at the Manchester United team hotel in London ahead of Saturday's game at West Ham.

The man who could make the difference to England's hopes in South Africa admits he did not find out the draw until a full five hours after the ceremony had taken place.

"I was asleep until 10pm,"
explained Rooney.

"We got the train down to London and got to the hotel about 5pm.

"I lay down on my bed to watch television.

"I fell asleep and didn't find out what the draw was until five hours later."

The 24-year-old, who has no doubt had some sleepless nights after becoming a father for the first time last month, was happy to discover, like most of the country, that England had avoided the big guns - drawing the USA, Slovenia and Algeria.

However, he is taking nothing for granted having seen the ever-improving USA inflict Spain's only defeat in their last 44 games during the Confederations Cup this past summer.

"It was a good draw. I saw USA beat Spain in the Confederations Cup. That will be the difficult game,"
he continued.

"But we should win the other two. We need to respect those teams but it could have been worse."
