Juventus coach Ciro Ferrara is on the brink of the sack after Bianconeri president Jean-Claude Blanc reportedly received a furious call from Patron John Elkann after Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Cagliari.

Juve were beaten by seventh place Cagliari courtesy of a sensational strike by Nene following a quickly taken free-kick and then a cool finish by substitute Alessandro Matri late on.

The defeat sees Ciro Ferrara's men slip to third in the table a full eight points behind table-toppers Inter Milan with the two set to meet next weekend in a potentially-explosive Derby D'Italia.

After suffering their third defeat of the season, respected Turin newspaper Tuttosport reported that Blanc spoke with Elkann, who is said to be incandescent with rage at the club's poor form.

Ferrara had been warned to turn around the club's fortunes of late with Sunday's clash at home to Inter set to be 'make-or-break' for the 42-year-old.
