A rematch of the first ever UEFA Champions League final takes place at the San Siro on Wednesday evening as AC Milan host Marseille with the Rossoneri seeking to secure qualification into the last 16.
Fresh from their enthralling double-header with Real Madrid, which Leonardo's men won 4-3 on aggregate, Milan will be looking to secure their place in the knockout stage, preferably as group winners as to avoid the big guns.
AC Milan and Real both lead Group C with seven points, however, by virtue of a better head-to-head, the Italians are effectively top.
Marseille are one point further back and travel to the fashion capital knowing that a defeat, coupled with a Real win over FC Zurich, will spell the end of their involvement in Europe’s elite club competition for this season.
In the reverse fixture in Matchday 1, two goals by Flippo Inzaghi gave the Rossoneri a narrow 2-1 win although l'OM have since improved and will be boosted by their 1-0 win over Paris St Germain in Friday night's 'La Classique'.
Reflecting on his sides chances of an upset, l'OM coach Didier Deschamps was in philosophical mood as he looks for his team to become only the second ever French side to beat Milan on their own ground, after Lille completed the feat in 2006.
"Milan did not play a great game, but a solid game," Deschamps told the press.
"They showed great efficiency, shooting three times and scoring two goals. We lacked concentration and that was enough to allow Milan to win.
"Consequently, we know very well that to expect a good result here, we must be hyper-efficient defensively, defending together, tight between the lines. We will not be satisfied with that and use what we can do offensively."
Both sides have been scoring goals for fun of late with Marseille hitting FC Zurich for six on Matchday 4, whilst AC Milan continued their renaissance with a thrilling 4-3 win over Cagliari at the weekend.
The seven-time European champions are unbeaten in nine matches in all competitions, with six wins and three draws, and as their sensational and dramatic 3-2 win over Real Madrid in Matchday 3 proved, on their day they are more than a match for Europe's finest.
A win for the hosts will send them through to the last 16 with one match to spare before they travel to Zurich on Matchday 6.
Team News:
AC Milan are without Marco Borriello after he injured his knee in training, while Mathieu Flamini (ankle) and Gennaro Gattuso (thigh) are also out.
However, in Massimo Ambrosini, Clarence Seedorf and Andrea Pirlo they have more than enough cover.
Marseille welcome back Argentine midfielder Lucho Gonzalez into the fold, although they will be without midfield enforcer Stephane Mbia who has an ankle injury.
Striking duo Brandao and captain Mahamadou Niang will lead the line for the visitors and hope to rattle the Milan rear-guard.
Probable Line-Ups (*Star Man):
AC Milan (4-3-3): Dida; Oddo, Nesta, Silva, Zambrotta; Pirlo, Ambrosini, Seedorf; Pato*, Inzaghi, Ronaldinho.
ExtraFootie Prediction: AC Milan 3 - 2 Marseille. The corresponding fixture was a tight affair and we expect thee same here as very good attacking sides go hammer-and-tong for the three points. We tip Milan…just.
