UEFA Champions League VIDEO Flashback: Barcelona 2-0 Inter Milan

ExtraFootie’s Rolly Pelovangu looks back at the 'Game of the Night' in the UEFA Champions League where Barcelona moved a step closer to securing their place in the last 16 with a comfortable 2-0 over a poor Inter Milan side.

In life there are mysteries, magic and miracles - Inter had their 'miracle' so to speak on Matchday 4 when the Nerazzurri, courtesy of five mad second-half minutes, managed to somehow steal a 2-1 win away to Dynamo Kiev after trailing for over an hour.

A miracle indeed given the fact that it was Jose Mourinho's first win in Europe for just over a year (and at the nineth time of asking) as Inter boss!

Having jumped from the bottom of Group F to the top in one giant leap, the Serie A champions epitomised the 'mysterious' aspect of their nature. How could a team who are so dominate domestically - perhaps Europe's No.1 domestic outfit - struggle so badly in Europe?

Furthermore, were they really going to be the ones to put the final nail in the coffin of treble winners and current holders Barcelona's European dreams this season? The answer was a emphatic 'NO' as Pep Guardiola's men rolled back the months and brushed the visitors aside.

Their football, team movement, creativity, passing and confidence was the 'magic' aspect of the night.

Despite being without striking duo Lionel Messi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the Catalans were at times in a different league and few, even the travelling Inter fans, were surprised when Gerard Pique turned home a corner at the far post in the 10th minute.

Young starlet Pedro then volleyed home the second just before the half-hour after Xavi and full-back Dani Alves linked up exquisitely, and at 2-0 the three points were safe, secure and fastened.

The stats said it all really. La Blaugrana had 60 per cent possession, slammed 10 shots at Julio Cesar to Inter's five (pitiful attempts) and had six corners to Inter's three.

As ever Iniesta and Xavi bossed the middle of the park with all the grace, poise and manoeuvrability of Cinderella on ice skates, whilst their counterparts Thiago Motta and Esteban Cambiasso were more akin to the ugly sisters.

Up-top striker Samuel Eto'o was hopelessly stranded in Inter's rigid 4-3-1-2 formation with the only time Barca keeper Victor Valdes had to jettison from his coffee-break was to nonchalantly usher wide a wayward header by Motta in the second half.

So are the Spanish and European champions back to their swash-buckling best? That remains to be seen, however, what is certain is that few will want to go toe-to-toe with the Catalan giants come the knockout stage.

The self-proclaimed 'Special One', Jose Mourinho, himself eluded to it as he acknowledged his side's inferiority.

"What can I say, we are far behind in terms of individual quality, they play better," he told Sky Sports.

"They did well without [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic and [Lionel] Messi, but it's as if they were there. I expected a team with more desire to play, with less fear. The team struggled under Barcelona's pressure."

Barca

Baca strolled the game last night and on me £215 in the process!

Despite most people saying that they need a draw in Kiev to go qualify, I'm pretty sure a 1-0 or 2-0 defeat would also take them through. If Barca get one Kiev would then need 4 to put them out... if i have read the rules properly.

I'm surprised Uefa havent been on the phone yet about you boys showing the highlights of CL games!
