An enthralling Group C sees AC Milan host Marseille at the San Siro, whilst it is good news for footballing neutrals as Cristiano Ronaldo makes his eagerly awaited return as Real Madrid entertain FC Zurich.
After the blockbuster double-header between Milan and Real Madrid ended 4-3 on aggregate to the Italian side, one could be forgiven for thinking that matchday 5 of Group C seems a bit of a damp squib.
After all two home wins are an inevitability right? Wrong. This group is far from sewn up, although come 9.45pm on Wednesday evening and the group could be done and dusted!
Allow us to explain. AC Milan and Real Madrid lead Group C with seven points, however, by virtue of a better head-to-head, the Italians are effectively top.
Olympique Marseille are one point behind the leading pair on six points whilst FC Zürich prop up the group with three.
A win for the top two will send both clubs through to the last 16 with one match to spare, while Marseille's target will be to grab a famous win over the Rossoneri and oust them on their way to a totally unforeseen qualification into the last 16.
In the reverse fixture in Matchday 1, two goals by Flippo Inzaghi gave the Rossoneri a narrow 2-1 win and Wednesday evening's game promises to be another close affair.
"Nothing is impossible," l'OM midfielder Fabrice Abriel told the club's official website.
"To win would be a good option, knowing that we can beat Real at home. The key is to show the same face and self-sacrifice [as we did against PSG].
"Effort will inevitably be rewarded because we have the quality that goes with it. We will not pass through this event," he affirmed.
Elsewhere, Real Madrid welcome back world record signing Cristiano Ronaldo for the visit of Swiss champions FC Zurich to the Santiago Bernabeu.
'CR9' has spent six-weeks on the treatment table with an ankle injury but returns just in time as Los Blancos prepare for a crucial week which ends with a trip to the Camp Nou to face champions Barcelona in 'El Clasico'.
Real demolished Bernard Challandes' men 5-2 in Zurich on Matchday 1 ,when surprise, surprise, Ronaldo was the star of the show as he bagged a brace, and few will rule him out from doing the same again come Wednesday night.
