It was truly a remarkable afternoon at White Hart Lane on Sunday as Tottenham Hotspur smashed nine goals past hapless Wigan, but Paul Scharner's antics also gave rise to the ghost of Thierry Henry.
Harry Redknapp's men produced a masterclassin attacking football to batter sorry Wigan, with Jermain Defoe netting five goals, to move into a coveted UEFA Champions League place in the Premier League table. However, it would seem that even at it's most radiant, the beautiful game is not without a blemish or two as Paul Scharner evoked memories of Henry's blatant handball which crushed Republic of Ireland's World Cup dream.
It's not as if the Spurs faithful needed reminding of just how devastating the Arsenal legend Henry could be on a football pitch, but Scharner did just that with an inexplicable Henry-esque handball that led to Wigan's consolation goal.
Thankfully Scharner's impact was not nearly as great as the French captain's, merely costing Spurs a clean sheet, but nevertheless another high profile handball incident going amiss was the last thing football needed this weekend.
