Arsenal are reportedly lining up a £15million swoop for Werder Bremen’s young play-maker Mesut Ozil as Gunners boss Arsene Wenger prepares for life without Cesc Fabregas.
Although Fabregas has repeatedly stressed his commitment to the Gunners’ cause, even going as far as kissing the badge when he scored in Arsenal’s near perfect 6-2 display against Blackburn last month, the Spanish midfielder continues to be heavily linked with a return to boyhood club Barcelona at the end of the season.
The reports have caused Gunners boss Arsene Wenger to consider life without one of his most highly-prized assets and he is pondering making a £15m swoop for Werder Bremen starlet Mesut Ozil.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has been a revelation since his move from Schalke 04 to Werder and is regarded as one of Europe’s hottest prospects.
With over 100 Bundesliga appearances and five German caps to his name, Ozil could be the creative spark Wenger needs in order to fill the void should Cesc Fabregas depart.
Dubbed ‘the New Diego’ for his dribbling skills, fast feet and eye for goal, Ozil is being tracked by many European clubs and the Gunners face stiff if they are to secure the Gelsenkirchen-born lad who is of Turkish origin.
We at ExtraFootie are unsurprised at Wenger’s interest in Ozil, and indeed, he is a player we covered in our very own Talent Scout Feature last month. Check it out.
