The Marseille defender who put Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo on the sidelines for over a month Souleymane Diawara, has vowed to make the same challenge on Ronaldo should he ever get the chance.
Soullemayne Diawara made the tackle during Los Blancos clash with the French giants at the Santiago Bernabeu in matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League game in which Ronaldo had scored twice already.
With Real already 2-0 up, Diawara launched himself into a tackle on the Portuguese wizard resulting in a penalty and an instant dismissal for the Frenchman.
Ronaldo was subsequently substituted but then aggravated the injury during Portugal’s crunch World Cup qualifier at home to Hungary, and as a result has not played for Madrid since.
Diawara has received much criticism but maintained his innocence and vowed that should the opportunity arise again, he would make the same challenge.
"I would re-do the challenge on Cristiano Ronaldo. The game is like that and I would not hesitate to do it again," he was reported as saying by Spanish sports journal AS.
"It is true that I went into the tackle hard and fast, but television pictures show that I played the ball,” he added.
The sides are set to renew acquaintances when they clash at the Stade Velodrome on December 8th. For the record Ronaldo is expected to be fit whilst Diawara is expected to start. It should be intriguing then!
