France coach Raymond Domenech has announced his 24-man squad to face the Republic of Ireland in their crucial World Cup qualifying match on November 14th and 18th respectively.
Les Bleus face-off against Giovanni Trapattoni's Republic of Ireland in a World Cup qualifier with the first leg at Croke Park a week on Saturday.
As ever, the much maligned France chief Domenech has raised a few eyebrows with his selection, although the omission of Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira is no real surprise.
The Inter Milan midfielder, who has won 107 caps for the national side, has been in the international wilderness for some time and due to his lack of first-team opportunities at the San Siro a recall has not been forthcoming.
Two uncapped players in Bordeaux goalkeeper Cedric Carrasso and Lyon full-back Aly Cissokho have been included, although there is no place for Arsenal playmaker Samir Nasri, who has just returned from a broken leg.
Nevertheless, the big guns have been called upon, including Arsenal duo Bacary Sagna and William Gallas, Barcelona striker Thierry Henry, Chelsea forward Nicolas Anelka and the hero against the Faroe Islands, Andre-Pierre Gignac.
Also included is Lyon goalkeeper Hugo Lloris whose heroics against Liverpool on Wednesday night earned him many plaudits.
The 24-man squad list:
Goalkeepers: Cedric Carrasso (Bordeaux), Hugo Lloris (Lyon), Steve Mandanda (Marseille)
Defenders: Eric Abidal (Barcelona), Aly Cissokho (Lyon), Patrice Evra (Manchester United), Julien Escude (Sevilla), Rod Fanni (Rennes), William Gallas (Arsenal), Bacary Sagna (Arsenal), Sebastien Squillaci (Sevilla).
