UEFA Europa League: The 'Best of the Rest' Preview

Twists and turns, elimination and progression await the teams involved in the Europa League on Thursday; ExtraFootie previews the best of the action across Europe with some mouth-watering ties to look forward to.

Perplexed commentators will be hurriedly running through potential scenarios and different outcomes as each goal goes in, much to the confusion of themselves and everybody listening.

That will certainly be the case in Group A when Dutch giants Ajax travel to Dinamo Zagreb, with the two sides battling it out for a place in the knockout stages.

Croatian side Zagreb need a victory to keep their qualification hopes alive, while Martin Jol’'s side can take a huge step towards the next stage of the competition by picking up the three points.

The Amsterdam side wont have to deal with a hostile home crowd however, as the match will be played behind closed doors following crowd trouble in Zagreb’s second group match against FC Timişoara.

Elsewhere, Rapid Vienna can leapfrog Hapoel Tel-Aviv with victory over the Group C leaders in Austria.

Rapid
have proved to be pretty handy on their home patch, having defeated German cracks Hamburg 3-0 on matchday 1 and producing a shock 1-0 victory over Aston Villa before knocking them out in the qualifiers.

Peter Pacult's men will be looking to restore some battered pride following their 5-1 capitulation in Israel in the reverse fixture and will have no problem motivating themselves ahead of the key clash.

Two of the most established sides in the competition in Lazio and Villarreal come face to face at El Madrigal in ExtraFootie’s Game of the Day.

After a 2-1 defeat in the reverse fixture in Rome a fortnight ago, a home loss against the Italians would be curtains for The Yellow Submarines should FC Salzburg avoid defeat in Bulgaria.

Ernesto Valverde’s side can draw level with tonight's opponents on six points in Group G should they pick up a win and the experienced Spainard's will be determined to avenge their away defeat on matchday 3.

Group J
pits Shakhtar Donetsk against French side Toulouse, with the Ukrainians romping to the biggest Europa league win in their history with a 4-0 victory over Alain Casanova's side a fortnight ago.

The UEFA Champions League veterans can all but secure their progression to the next round with a victory in France after an impressive start to the campaign, with three successive wins.

The Ligue 1 side are still in the running for the group’s second spot and will be determined to keep the pressure on Belgian side Club Brugge, who they remain level with on four points.

So all that's left to do now is sit back, relax, crack open a beer and watch the goals fly in.

Although ExtraFootie cannot be held responsible if the 'Game of the Day' between Villerreal and Lazio finishes in a 0-0 bore draw!
