Bundesliga basement boys Hertha Berlin are reportedly preparing to offer former Arsenal defender Sol Campbell a lucrative 18-month contract to lure him to the German capital.
The 35-year-old veteran will find out next week whether he will be given special dispensation to sign for a club outside the transfer window following his decision to quit Notts County after just one game with the ambitious League Two outfit.
Campbell joined the Magpies on a five-year deal worth a reported £10million in August, but walked out just three weeks later, claiming that promises made by the club were not kept in relation to player recruitment.
The former Engalnd international has held talks with both FIFA and PFA representatives in his attempt to be allowed to play before January after his controversial exit Meadow Lane.
A host of English clubs have been linked with the defender, including Newcastle United, but a money-spinning offer from Hertha may prove more tempting especially given his age, as lets face it he is no spring chicken!
Hertha have won just once in 11 games in the league this season, and despite replacing coach Lucien Favre, who led them to fourth last season, with Friedhelm Funkel, they are still in the mire - five points from safety.
If the Daily Mail report is to be belived, Hertha believe Campbell to be the man to plug their holes at the back and help them climb up the table, before it proves too late.
