Liverpool outcast Andrea Dossena looks set for a move to Italian outfit Napoli in January after his agent confirmed the player wishes to leave Anfield in order to secure a place at next summers World Cup.
The 28-year-old has found chances few and far between at Anfield so far this season, with just one substitute appearance to his name.
Having struggled to settle in England since his £7million move from Udinese in the summer of 2008, Dossena appears to have set his heart on a move back to Italy.
His agent, Roberto La Florio, has sounded out Napoli to the left-back's availability and hopes a deal can be struck when the winter transfer window opens.
"It is clear that in January Napoli will sign new players, especially in the role of Dossena," said La Florio.
"We'll see in January if there are opportunities to return to Italy and play - we are interested because Dossena wants to go to the World Cup.
"Napoli is the Italian team that has pushed most for Dossena and according to me it would be the perfect solution for him."
Dossena has been left out of the Liverpool squad travelling to Lyon for the crunch UEFA Champions League tie, despite the Reds suffering from an injury crisis, suggesting the Italians days at Anfield are numbered.
