The UEFA Champions League has produced an array of magnificent spectacles in recent years and as the competition begins to hot up this season, Extrafootie has decided to implement a list of top five classic encounters involving English clubs!
Sit back, enjoy, and tell us what you think...
5. Chelsea 4-4 Liverpool (2009 Quarter-Final second leg, Stamford Bridge)
Not many people expected thrills and spills when these two were pitted against each other for the fifth season in succession, which made the 180 minutes that followed all the more joyous for the neutral, particularly the second instalment. Petr Cech forgot how to keep goal but Didier Drogba returned to his unplayable best.
Each side demonstrated nous from free-kicks in very different ways as Fabio Auerilo belted in an opener only for Frank Lampard to excel in a match that ebbed and flowed so much as to make even the armchair fan nauseous.
4. AC Milan 0-2 Arsenal (2008 Last 16 second leg, San Siro)
The manner in which Arsene Wenger's young guns became the first Englsih club to beat AC Milan at the San Siro, eliminating the holders of the Champions League in the process, was nothing short of sensational.
Late goals from Cesc Fabregas and Emmanuel Adebayor capped an immense display from the Gunners which was delivered with class and not luck!
3. Chelsea 4-2 Barcelona (2004 Last 16 second leg, Stamford Bridge)
Eidur Gudjohnsen, Frank Lampard and Damien Duff proved within 20 minutes that Jose Mourinho could adopt a devil-may-care attitude when the mood struck, but by half-time Ronaldinho, still in his pomp and certainly in the mood, struck - once from the penalty spot and then with the most glorious of 20-yard belters, preceded by an arrogant shuffle!
Petr Cech saved brilliantly from future team-mate Juliano Belletti, Andres Iniesta and Carlos Puyol before John Terry won the game with a trademark header, with a little help from Ricardo Carvalho though!
2. Manchester United 2-1 Bayern Munich (1999 Final, Camp Nou)
Goals from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Teddy Sheringham rounded off a memorable campaign for United fans who were euphoric after this fantastic spectacle.
Sir Alex Ferguson's men produced an outstanding second half display and scored twice in two minutes to earn the 1999 UEFA Champions League crown to complete a famous and unprecedented treble!
And finally...
1. Liverpool 3-3 Milan - Liverpool win 3-2 on pens (2005 final, Atatürk Olimpiyat Stadium).
Behind 3-0 at half-time to goals from Paolo Maldini and a brace from Hernan Crespo, a breathless six-minute spell and goals from Steven Gerrard, Vladimir Smicer and Xabi Alonso brought Liverpool level.
Goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek excelled, not only in the shootout, but also with a stunning double save from Andriy Shevchenko at the end of normal time which brought karma on the Italians having heavily celebrated with disregard to the Anfield side at half-time.
