Premier League: Saturday Highlights

ExtraFootie's Raj Mannick holds his breath, counts to three, and attempts to compose himself after a truly turbulent day in the Premier League, including yet another defeat for Liverpool, and a record number of red cards shown in one afternoon.

Game of the Day - Arsenal's 3-0 win over Tottenham. Spurs were looking to live up to their inexplicably confident pre-match chat and attempt to assert their presence on the top four with a win at the Emirates. However, the Gunners struck twice in the space of 11 seconds (yes, seconds!) just before the break with a goal from Van Persie immediately followed by a mazy run and finish from the impressive Fabregas that left the Spurs side hanging their heads in embarrassment.

Van Persie bundled in his second and Arsenal's third in the second-half to confirm their dominance over their North London rivals, who have failed to beat the Gunners in the league this decade!

Performance of the Day - Chelsea's 4-0 demolition of Bolton just pips Sunderland's comeback against West Ham. The Blues are a joy to watch at the moment and kept top spot with another ruthless performance. Bolton had Jlloyd Samuel sent off for bringing down Drogba in the box, and when Lampard dispatched the resulting spot-kick, Chelsea never looked back.

Deco, Drogba, and an own goal from Zat Knight rounded off the win for Chelsea, who in truth could and should have more after controlling the game from start to finish. On this form it will take a mighty storm to knock Carlo Ancelotti's men from their perch on top of the table.

Upset of the Day - Craven Cottage hosted a truly dramatic and memorable match as Fulham crushed nine men Liverpool's spirits with a 3-1 win. Torres cancelled out Zamora's opener to leave the game all-square at the break, but in the second-half Erik Nevland put the Cottagers ahead with a close-range effort. Liverpool's chances took a severe blow when Degen and Carragher were shown red in the space of three minutes, both for professional fouls, and Clint Dempsey nailed Benitez's coffin shut late on.

After the euphoria of last weeks win over Man United, Liverpool's title hopes are now surely over as they lost their fifth game in six matches.

Player of the Day - An unlikely hero today emerged in the form of Aruna Dindane, whose hat-trick for table-propping Portsmouth inspired them to a 4-0 win over Wigan at Fratton Park. Dindane's cheeky dink, tap-in, and penalty earned him the prestigious title of 'Player of the Day', and Pompey fans will be hoping the Ivorian continues his scoring form to help drag his side off the foot of the table and out of the relegation zone.

Donkey(s) of the Day - In a day that saw a record-breaking eight players sent off, the donkey roll of honour reads as follows: Kenwyne Jones, Radoslav Kovac, Jamie Carragher, Phillip Degen, Jlloyd Samuel, Geovanni, Carlos Cueller, and Diniyar Bilyaletdinov. Donkeys, the lot of ya!

Goal of the Day - Is Dimitar Berbatov worth £30m? On this evidence the answer to that is an emphatic yes! Evra's fierce pass was controlled by the Bulgarian with his back to goal and as the ball bounced up the Manchester United striker swiveled and volleyed the ball into the far corner in fluid motion. An unbelievable goal to break the deadlock at Old Trafford and send United on their way to three points with a 2-0 win over a poor Blackburn side.

Talking Point of the Day - As Arsenal, Chelsea, and Man United won convincingly, all the talk will surround Liverpool who lost their fifth league game this season to pile the pressure on manager Rafael Benitez, whose future must surely be in serious jeopardy after yet another loss.

More worrying for the Anfield faithful is the fact Benitez once again insisted on removing Torres and Benayoun prematurely from the game, perhaps indicating the under-fire boss has conceded their Premier League title hopes already.

In doing so he is placing all his eggs in the Champions League basket. Only a win away at Lyon on Wednesday will do for Benitez, otherwise the Prem may have it's first significant managerial casualty since Scolari was sacked from Chelsea last year.

Team of the Day (4-3-3) - Brian Jensen (Burnley), Patrice Evra (Man Utd), Jody Craddock (Wolves), Ricardo Carvalho (Chelsea), Graham Alexander (Burnley), Frank Lampard( Chelsea), Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal), Anderson (Man Utd), Robin van Persie (Arsenal), Aruna Dindane (Portsmouth), Erik Nevland (Fulham).
