ExtraFootie rounds-up all the Carling Cup fourth round action from Tuesday evening, as holders Manchester United progress, Blackburn hit five and Portsmouth find their shooting boots at long last!
An upset was effectively ruled out within ten minutes at Oakwell, when Danny Welbeck headed in an Anderson corner early on for a vastly changed Manchester United side against Mark Robins' Barnsley.
It was a case of master against pupil, as Robins pitted his wits against his old boss Sir Alex Ferguson, but it was Michael Owen who stole the headlines with a fine second-half goal to remind England boss Fabio Capello of his class.
United's evening was soured when captain Gary Neville was shown a straight red card for a high tackle on Adam Hammill, although Fergie would have been buoyed by the displays of debutant Gabriel Obertan and Welbeck.
Elsewhere, Sam Allardyce's Blackburn beat Peterborough 5-2 in a lively encounter at Ewood Park, with Big Sam fielding a strong starting XI, despite having a swine-flu epidemic on his hands.
Rovers went in front through a Morten Gamst Pedersen free-kick, while Chris Whelpdale equalised for the Posh, before Steven Reid put Blackburn 2-1 up from the spot, with England Under-21 'keeper Joe Lewis sent off for bringing down Pedersen in the box.
Ten-man Peterborough again hit back after the break, George Boyd crashing a shot past Jason Brown, but they weren't level for long, former Real Madrid man Michel Salgado getting his first for Rovers with a neat finish.
3-2 quickly became 4-2 with Nicola Kalinic teeing up Benny McCarthy, before the £6million Croat made it 5-2 from the spot, his first goal in English football.
Everton's dismal week continued, as they made it three losses in three different competitions in just six days, as Tottenham recorded a comfortable 2-0 win White Hart Lane.
David Moyes' side were at full strength while Harry Redknapp rested some key players, giving the likes of David Bentley and Gareth Bale a rare start.
And it was England's forgotten man Bentley who delivered a trademark cross for Tom Huddlestone to volley home after half an hour.
After the break Robbie Keane eventually made it 2-0 after his penalty was saved by Tim Howard, with the American proceeding to save follow-ups from the Irishman, Bentley and Bale before Keane finally got the better of him at the sixth attempt!
In the night's other all-Premier League affair Paul Hart's Portsmouth continued their free-scoring form in the competition with a 4-0 drubbing over Tony Pulis' under-strength Stoke City side at Fratton Park.
Pompey, who scored three against Carlisle in the last round, put their league woes behind them with a win that featured a brace from on-loan Frenchman Frederic Piquionne, the Lyon man grabbing a goal in both halves.
Danny Webber made it 2-0, while substitute Kanu completed the rout and send the home fans into raptures.
Finally Aston Villa overcame Sunderland at the Stadium of Light after 120 minutes of football failed to yield a goal.
Martin O'Neill gave Fabio Capello favourite Emile Heskey a rare start, while Steve Bruce also rested several established first team players, including Steed Malbranque and Darren Bent.
Villa 'keeper Brad Guzan was the hero, saving three Black Cats penalties in the shoot-out, as well as a tame effort from Kenwyne Jones in normal time, while Ashley Young stepped up with the winning spot-kick to end a drab affair.
