Capello: Seven England World Cup places up for grabs

England boss Fabio Capello has hinted that he knows for certain sixteen of his 23-man squad for next summers World Cup, meaning there are still seven places to fight for.
The Italian tactician guided his team through a successful qualifying campaign, culminating in Wednesday night's comfortable 3-0 victory over Belarus at Wembley.
Goals from fringe players Peter Crouch (2) and Shaun Wright-Phillips showed the strength in depth Capello has to choose his final 23 from, though the 63-year-old seemed a little underwhelmed by the Manchester City wingers lack of awareness ahead of his goal.
Capello told skysports.com: "At the moment we got the corner, I told Wright-Phillips he had to go towards Beckham.
"He went. He received the ball. He shot and scored.
"I was happy for this and he did well. But I don't know why I had to tell him. He needs to see these things alone."
The former Juventus and Real Madrid coach is a notoriously hard man to please, and he has now issued a challenge to the rest of England's 'nearly men' to step up to the plate and prove their fitness ahead of next summer's tournament.
"At this moment it is impossible to speak about 23 players who will be with us in South Africa," he added.
"I have my ideas but next April I will have to check how they all are.
"Sometimes at the start of a season, the players are strong. At the end they are tired. That will make a difference.
"It is not just about being fit. Psychologically they need to be right as well. Only once I know what that situation is can I decide on the seven players who will stay with us."
ExtraFootie has taken a stab at guessing what Capello's provisional squad list is, and we think these are the 16 men who have all but guaranteed their ticket for the plane to South Africa next summer.

Hmmm if seven places are up for grabs that must mean Capello's mind is somewhat set already - doesn't any think that he ought to be more patient when it comes to deciding???
Things turn quickly in football and come May certain things will not be as they are now
