Los Angeles Galaxy have confirmed that they are currently working on a deal that will see David Beckham return to AC Milan on loan in the January transfer window.
The 34-year-old spent five months at the San Siro last season and is now set to return to the Rossoneri in the New Year as he looks to cement his place in Fabio Capello's England squad for the World Cup finals in South Africa.
Beckham has made no secret of his desire to return to the San Siro, and last month Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani confirmed that he was confident that the two sides could agree terms for the England midfielder's return.
Tim Leiweke, chief of Galaxy's owners AEG, revealed on Thursday that the deal was reaching its final stages, and added that the Los Angeles club were fully behind Beckham's continued commitment to the England cause. "If David's not playing over here [in Europe] in January, he's not going to be on the national team during the World Cup," he said.
"So we would be honoured to do that again if it helps David because we want to make sure he fulfils that dream."
Leiweke also joked that Beckham had been a little overeager when he announced last week that the move was close to completion. "David was probably saying a little bit more than he should but he is right, we're going to get something done and we're going to take care of him."
