With Real Madrid's president-in-waiting Florentino Perez reportedly keen once again to take Cristiano Ronaldo to the Santiago Bernabeu, respected Sky Sports football correspondent Guillem Balague has expressed his belief that the Portuguese superstar wants to join Los Blancos this summer. The future of Ronaldo is once again at the centre of intense media speculation, with the player failing to clarify his position once again when asked after his side's UEFA Champions League final defaet to
Barcelona.
"The future? We will see," was his response.
However, with recent reports indicating that Florentino Perez is afterall prepared to sanction the £80million pre-agreed deal with Unted for the player's services, Ronaldo could very well have played his last game in a
United shirt.
Guillem Balague, the authorative voice of all things Spanish footballl, is convinced that the 24-year-old wants to move to the Spanish capital but has reservations as to whether Perez will indeed push through with the deal.
“I do not know if you saw it on TV but [Sir Alex] Ferguson flew off the handle 20 minutes from the end of the game when Cristiano tried to level the match all on his own, abused the step-over when he faced [Carles] Puyol and Xavi, and when he saw his manager infuriated, he disappeared,” Balague wrote in the Spanish newspaper
AS.
“He is a player who needs the right affection and this is the second time in as many weeks that there has been an emotional breakdown between the two on the field.“But when he said he does not know where he will play next season, he was right because he doesn’t know if Florentino will try and obtain him from United.
“There are more urgent objectives that will give the impression of authority that Florentino wants to impose from day one, so Ronaldo’s desire to join Madrid (which no-one doubts) may not be enough.”
