McCarthy promises to attack Man Utd

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has promised his side will go on the offensive at Old Trafford in their Carling Cup third round clash with holders Manchester United on Wednesday evening.

The Premier League new-boys go into the tie with the Red Devils in high spirits after picking up an impressive 2-1 victory over Fulham at Molineux on Sunday to give them their second win of the season.

And after having watched United concede three goals at home to arch rivals Manchester City at the weekend, despite wining 4-3, McCarthy feels attack will be his side's best form of defence.

"We will play 4-4-2 against them and have a game with them,"
the former Republic of Ireland manager said.

"I don't know what team Sir Alex Ferguson will play but we will play whoever he turns out.

"We are not going there to sit back and have them attack us for 90 minutes. That would be a recipe for disaster so we will be going up there and trying to make sure that we are on the front foot for the game."

McCarthy is likely to hand starts to new boy Stefan Maierhofer, Michael Kightly, who is returning from a long term injury, and former United youth player Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.

Meanwhile, Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to make eleven changes to his starting XI with Johnny Evans, Nani, Michael Carrick and Michael Owen all expected to line-up from the kick-off.
