Wolves new boy Stefan Maierhofer is keen to make an immediate impact in the Premier League this season and prove to the fans that boss Mick McCarthy was right to splash out £1.8million on his services.
The 27-year-old signed a three-year contract at Molineux just hours before the transfer deadline was due to close on Tuesday and arrives in England with a big reputation following his stunning exploits with Rapid Vienna last term.
The 6ft 7in Autria international plundered 23 goals in 37 games last season and having witnessed his side core only two goals in their opening four games this campaign McCarthy will be hoping the hitman can repeat the trick for Wolves.
Following a late arrival into the professional game, Maierhofer enjoyed
an indifferent spell German football with Bavarian giants Bayern Munich before securing his move to the Austrian Bundesliga.
And he admits he has now fulfilled a life-long ambition by making the switch to the Premier League and hopes to have a similar impact at Molineux as he did at the Gerhard Hanappi Stadium with Rapid. "I'm happy and proud to be playing in England. It was a personal goal of mine," he told Austrian ORF media.
"As I did at Rapid Vienna I want to leave my mark at Wolves now. This won't be easy, but what is easy in this business?"
Maierhofer will be a welcome addition to McCarthy's squad and his previous career as a chef suggests he has the hunger for the challenges that await in him in the coming months.
