Reports emerging today are linking Newcastle United utility man Alan Smith with a move to Premier League new boys Wolves.
The 28-year-old
England international has seen his career somewhat spiral after succesful spells with both
Leeds United and Manchester United.
Sir Alex Ferguson forced the striker-cum-midfielder out of Old Trafford in 2007, and Smith found little solace in the north-east with
Newcastle United. Now faced with the prospect of Championship football again, the Rothwell born man is thought to be keen to find a new club in the top-flight.
It's thought that
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is an admirer of the 19-times capped ace and is lining up a move to add Smith to his Molineux revolution. The former Ireland national team manager has already added the likes of Greg Halford, Kevin Doyle and Nenad Milijas to his squad and is eager for further additions.
He has revealed that there is sure to be new faces at the club ahead of their battle to survive in the Premier League next term but he may face competition from
Blackburn Rovers for Smith. The Ewood Park outfit are keen on a loan deal for the dangerman, while McCarthy wants to rubber stamp a permanent deal.
The uncertainty shrouding the Magpies at the moment is sure to delay any potential deals from being completed, but both club's are desperate to land the Premier League winner.
