Wigan manager Roberto Martinez is understood to be closing in on the signings of Rayo Vallecano duo Antonio Amaya and Mohamed Diame for a combined fee of €3.8million (£3.2m).Spanish daily
Marca claims that Spanish defender Amaya and Senegalese-born defensive midfielder Diame are poised to sign three-year deals at the DW Stadium after Latics boss Martinez made his move for the highly-rated duo.
26-year-old Amaya will provide competiton for
Titus Bramble and Emerson Boyce at the heart of the Latics' defence, while Diame, 22, will add tenacity to the midfield alongside Lee Cattermole.
The capture of Diame will represent something of a coup for Martinez given that the midfield powerhouse has been watched by
Barcelona,
Real Madrid and
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger over the past 12 months following some impressive displays.
If the reports prove accurate and Amaya and Diame do sign on at the Premier League outfit then they will follow Hendry Thomas, Jordi Lopez, James McCarthy and Jason Scotland into the club this summer.
