Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has confirmed that the club has received a 'formal' offer from Wigan Athletic for prolific hitman Jason Scotland. As
ExtraFootie told you earlier, the Swans chief had predicted that the Latics would lodge a bid for the 30-year-old, who has top scored in each of his two seasons for the Welsh club, scoring an amazing 53 goals from 105 games since his £25,000 arrival from Scottish side St Johnstone.
Having recently sold Antonio Valencia to
Manchester United for a reported £16million,
Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has funds available to strengthen his side and is eager to be reunited with
Scotland having worked with him during his spell in charge at the Liberty Stadium.
"We have now received a formal offer from Wigan for Jason," Jenkins confirmed on
Swansea's
official website.
"We will consider the contents of the offer and respond accordingly within the next few days."The Spaniard tactician has already snapped up on one of his former players after completing the £1.7million signing of compatriot Jordi
Gomez from
Espanyol following a successful loan spell at
Swansea last
term where he scored 14 goals from midfield.
Scotland, who is also believed to be a target for Premier League new-boys
Burnley, is untested at the top level of English football but has experience of playing in the SPL with
Dundee United at the beginning of his career.
