Calum Davenport stabbed

West Ham United have issued a statement declaring that their talented defender Calum Davenport has been stabbed at his home, and is currently in hospital receiving treatment.

The former Tottenham man's mother was also injured during the incident, which occurred at the player's home in Bedford.

Doctors have described the player's condition as serious, and it's believed that the main injuries Davenport suffered were to his legs.

No further information is available at present as Police continue with enquires, according to the club's official website.

Davenport, 26, spent the latter half of last season on loan at Sunderland, and helped them avoid relegation, but returned to Upton Park over the summer. He had hoped to figure in Gianfranco Zola's first team this season, but this incident is sure to have devastated everyone at the club.

Our thoughts are with him and his family in these sad times, from everyone at ExtraFootie.

Shocked

Genuinely shocked. Especially because I am from the Bedford area. It makes me glad I opted to move away.

I hope he has a speedy recovery, for a footballer to have his career cut short because of this is a very sad thing.
My thoughts are with him and his family.
