It now looks to be a three horse race to sign the talented target man, with Spurs boss Harry Redknapp publicly declaring his interest in the wantaway Pompey player.
Tottenham might just be front-runners all of a sudden to land the
England ace, after Redknapp has committed to stating publicly that he wants the lofty talisman at White Hart Lane.
It would be a return to roots of sorts for the former
Liverpool man, who started his youth career with The Lillywhites but failed to break into the senior set-up - being told by coaches back then that he lacked the strength to compete at the top level.
But Redknapp, who has a good relationship with the 6ft 7in hotshot having signed him on a number of previous occasions is now keen for Crouch to switch to North London. The
England international may well see the attraction of a big club like
Tottenham as a potentially exciting move, and be swayed by thepossibility of future success at The Lane.
Sunderland had looked in pole position to sign the ace hitman, as we told you here on
ExtraFootie, but now Spurs seem to have grabbed the mantle, so to speak.
Redknapp confirmed the club's interest in the player.
"I like Peter. I've signed him several times and he's a top player," Redknapp told
Sky Sports News.
Offers
"He's a player that we could be interested in, but we'll have to wait and see.
"Portsmouth obviously want to sell him now, they've accepted offers for him, so if they want to sell him, we'd be interested."
