Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is set to continue his Stadium of Light revolution in the New Year with bids for Wigan left-back Maynor Figueroa and Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson.
After a £25million spending spree following his arrival in the summer, acquiring players such as Darren Bent and club captain Lorik Cana, Bruce is set to open his cheque book once again in January.
Top target is former player Figueroa, whose move to the North East collapsed in the final hours of the transfer window in September.
However, it has not deterred former Wigan boss Bruce, who is ready to make a fresh £6million bid for the 26-year-old, despite the Honduras international being currently sidelined with knee ligament damage.
The roving full-back was a permanent fixture in Bruce's Latics starting XI during his time at the DW Stadium and has made over 60 appearances for Reinaldo Rueda's Honduras national team.
Also on Bruce's radar is highly-rated ‘Boro winger Johnson, 22, who has starred in the Championship this season, scoring nine goals, and has been attracting interest from Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and Everton.
Ambitious Johnson is keen on a swift return to the Premier League and may feel it is time to move on following the departure of Gareth Southgate, who had a major influence on his career.
"I want to achieve as much as I can and play for the senior England team," Johnson told The Sun.
The winger, who is out of contract at the Riverside Stadium, could be available for around £5million as Bruce looks to build on his side's impressive start to the season.
