Steve Bruce has completed his first signing since becoming Sunderland manager after it was confirmed that Frazier Campbell has completed his £6million move from Manchester United. The England Under-21 international has put pen-to-paper on a four-year contract at the Stadium of Light after successfully undergoing a medical on Wearside this morning.
The Premier League champions will receive an initial £3.5million fee for the 21-year-old hitman, which could then rise to a maximum of £6million based on certain criteria stipulated in the deal.
The news will come as a devastating blow to
Hull City - with whom Campbell helped gain promotion to the Premier League the season before last - after they had also agree a fee with
United and hoped to convince the talented youngster that his future lay at the KC Stadium.
However, the 21-year-old has opted instead to join the Black Cats and will be hoping to have more of an impact in the North East than he did on loan at
Tottenham last season, where he made just nine starts after being included in the deal which saw Dimitar Berbatov move to Old Trafford last summer.
Campbell will now hope to carry his impressive form at the European Under-21 Championships in
Sweden earlier this summer into the new campaign, with Bruce expected to further strenghten his forward-line in the coming weeks.
