Sol Campbell has admitted he would 'love' to play for Manchester United after he was linked with a sensational move to Old Trafford.
As ExtraFootie told you earlier, The Sun claim Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson is lining up a shock deal for the 35-year-old in order to bolster his injury-hit defence, which is currently missing no fewer than eight first-team stars.
Campell is free to find a new club after finally securing his release from Notts County after he walked out on a lucrative five-year deal, worth £10million, after just three weeks with the ambitious League Two outfit.
The former England international is currently training with former side Arsenal as he looks to maintain his fitness as he is unable to join another club until the transfer window opens on January 1st.
United are understood to be ready to invite the veteran centre-back for training at the Carrington training HQ as they weigh up a short-term deal, although Campbell has revealed he has not heard from anyone at United.
"I have heard nothing officially from Manchester United, but there have
been suggestions and of course, it would be a great move for me, if it
happens," Campbell told ESPN.
"I shall just have to wait and see if a call comes through the right channels."
Campbell, who won 73 caps for the Three Lions and was an instrumental part of Arsenal's 'Invincible' side in 2003/04, admits that he would interested in a move to the reigning Premier League champions.
"Of course I would love to play for Manchester United, but I am not counting any chickens, just waiting to see what happens," he continued.
"I am training as usual at Arsenal, and would go to train at Manchester United if I was asked."
