Portsmouth boss Avram Grant has singled out former England international Jamie Redknapp as the man he wants as his assistant at Fratton Park.
The ex-Chelsea gaffer was in the dugout for the first time yesterday afternoon to see his beleaguered troops outclassed by Manchester United in a 1-4 defeat.
In truth Pompey competed for long periods but were undone by a masterclass from Ryan Giggs, and a Wayne Rooney hat-trick - two of which were goals from the penalty spot.
But Grant is eager to bring in a fresh face to the club and see's the ex Liverpool pass master as the ideal candidate.
Current backroom staff Ian Woan and Paul Groves will remain at the club according to Grant. But he is determined to lure Redknapp away from his current career as a TV pundit.
Given his father's exploits and the fact that he has already undergone some coaching courses in order to secure his badges then you might be inclined to say that Redknapp is the perfect choice to learn the ropes as an understudy to an experienced coach like Grant.
The Israeli will make an offical offer to Redknapp this week.
