Ambitious Notts County have reportedly offered former Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini a £10million five-year-deal to lure him to Meadow Lane.
The Italian is currently the bookmakers favourite to replace County goalscoring hero Ian McParland, who was sacked on Monday despite the Magpies currently sitting in fifth place in League Two.
Reports in the DailyTelegraph claim that the club's new owners will fund a move for Mancini, who has experience managing at the highest level with the Nerazzurri, with whom he led to three consecutive league titles.
Mancini worked under the club's director of football Sven Goran Eriksson at both Lazio and Sampdoria and has experience of English football following his brief spell at Leicester City in 2001.
The club are expected to appoint a caretaker manager ahead of their clash with Rotherham at the weekend and club chairman Peter Trembling has insisted the club will not rush their decision.
"We will take the appropriate amount of time to ensure we make the right appointment. This will be done to our own time schedule," Trembling revealed in a statement.
''As we would all expect, our director of football Sven-Goran Eriksson will be responsible for this appointment. Beyond that, we cannot make any further comment at this stage."
However, Mancini's agent Maurizio De Giorgis has denied the speculation, telling the Daily Mail: "There is no truth in it whatsoever, with respect to Notts County.
"Maybe people have put together Roberto and Notts County because he is good friends with Sven."
