Nottingham Forest have confirmed that they have lodged a bid in 'excess of £1million' for Southampton striker David McGoldrick.
Saints' drop into League One, coupled with their well documented financial difficulties, is expected to lead to several players leaving St Mary's over the summer, with highly-rated young duo Andrew Surman and McGoldrick expected to lead the mass exodus.
In the case of 21-year-old McGoldrick, he scored 14 goals for the club this season and was one of the few bright spots in what turned out to be a distaterous campaign for the South-Coast club in more ways than one.
Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies has long been an admirer of the forward, who can also play in midfield, with the club confirming that they have made a £1million-plus bid and are awaiting for an answer from
Southampton.
"We have made a bid that is in excess of £1m and are waiting for a response," chief executive Mark Arthur told the
Nottingham Evening Post.Davies is busy trying to strengthen his squad for next season as he looks to push for a possible play-off spot in the Championship and has already lined up
Bristol City forward Dele Adebola to improve his attacking options as well.
