Middlesbrough are to conduct an internal inquiry into why Egyptian forward Mido and record signing Afonso Alves failed to return for pre-season training yesterday.According to reports the duo were absent without permission as the squad reported back to the club's Rockliffe Park training HQ as they prepare for life in the Championship next season.
Turkey forward Tuncay, who has been heavily linked with a move away from The Riverside this summer, was also conspicuous in his absence although it is believed that he was granted an extended break by manager Gareth Southgate after his international commitments at the end of the last campaign.
Southgate, who also excused goalkeeper Brad Jones and England Under-21 stars
Adam Johnson and
Andrew Taylor, will now look to resolve the matter as quickly as possible as he looks to guide Boro back to the top-flight at the first time of asking.
A spokesman said:
"The players returned to training on Monday. A number of them were missing, some with permission and others without.
"The matter will be dealt with internally."
