Redknapp rues soft Spurs

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has blasted his misfiring troops after their shock home loss to Mick McCarthy's Wolves this weekend.

Before the day's action had begun Spurs were sitting pretty in fourth place in the league, and looked a safe bet to move into the top three at the expense of North London rivals Arsenal, who play Liverpool today.

But by Saturday evening The Lillywhites had slipped out of the top four all together after their disastrous defeat to Wolves and Aston Villa's heroic victory at Old Trafford.

Redknapp was dismayed by his team's sorry performance and vowed that if they are to be genuine Champions Leaugue contenders then improvements are a must.

"We had loads of the ball, probably about 80 per cent, ball but it's hard when teams just sit in there. It's hard to break them down and they had no need to come out.

"The better reputation you get as a team, the more teams go away from home and make it difficult for you.

"If you're going to be a top team you have to find a way of breaking them down. That's what the top teams do but we just couldn't unlock the door."

Tottenham face Manchester City on Wednesday night in a crunch league fixture.
