Manchester City remain amongst the favourites to land highly-rated Toulouse holding midfielder Moussa Sissoko, after Tottenham refused to increase their £12million bid.
According to The Daily Mail, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has refused to enter into a bidding war with his mega-rich Premier League rivals and will now turn his attentions to other targets.
Sissoko has been earning rave reviews for his performances in the heart of the Le Tefece midfield over the past 12 months and is currently keeping Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira out of the French national team.
The 20-year-old is a tough-tackling, no-nonsense midfielder and is an ideal candidate for Mark Hughes, who has also been linked with a move for Barcelona star Yaya Toure.
Lyon and Bayern Munich are also reportedly tracking Sissoko but do not have the financial muscle to compete with the Citizens, who are set to embark on a January spending spree as they look to sustain their top four push.
Sissoko has previously stated his desire to one day play in the Premier League but has insisted it will be the decision of TFC. "I love the Premier League. It is the best league in the world. The stadiums are always full and I believe my game would be suited to the English style as I like the physical aspects of it," he told Sky Sports News. "But, it is up to Toulouse. I am happy here and I am still learning. "If they think it is time for me to move on then I will, but at the moment my desire is to play for Toulouse and keep on proving myself."
