Controversial Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has branded his punishment from the Football Association for his infamous goal scoring celebration against former club Arsenal as 'excessive'.
Adebayor had been charged with improper conduct by the FA after running the length of the field to celebrate in front of the Gunners faithful after scoring in last month's tumultuous encounter beteen the two sides at Eastlands.
The English game's governing body handed out a suspended two-match ban to the 25-year-old and also fined the Togo international £25,000 for the incident, which nearly caused a full scale riot.
However, while he accepts his punishment, Adebayor believes the punishment dished out by the FA was too extreme. "They have punished me for celebrating a goal and I accept it, but I think it is excessive," Adebayor told The People.
Adebayor could not resist another dig at his former club however, meaning that the Gunners' public enemy No.1 can expect one heck of a reception when he returns to the Emirates Stadium with City on April 17th.
"I don't want to talk about Arsenal at the moment. I remind them that we beat them 4-2, that's all," Adebayor said.
