Following Craig Bellamy's high-profile clash with a supporter at Old Trafford, it seems pitch invaders were à la mode for the weekend's games across the globe.
The feisty Bellamy lashed out at a fan who had ran onto the pitch during Manchester United's memorable 4-3 derby win over rivals Man City on Sunday. Michael Owen's controversial injury-time winner signalled the one-man invasion and the Welsh international went out of his way to strike the fan, despite the Old Trafford stewards seemingly in control of the situation.
The Welshman now faces investigation by the FA, but not all pitch invaders leave a sour taste as this clip from Russia shows.
In the game between Spartak and Saturn Moscow, just as Brazilian midfielder Alex prepared to take a penalty, a rotund fan dashes onto the pitch before unleashing an unstoppable left-footed drive past the helpless keeper and into the onion bag.
With the Russian stewards nowhere to be seen, the elated fan (along with his delirious mate) even took the liberty of performing a lap of honour to the delight of the crowd.
The penalty was eventually retaken and legitametly converted by Alex, but it did not prevent Spartak losing out 2-1.
But we can't help but wonder here at ExtraFootie whether, if Spartak had kept their set-piece specialist fan on the pitch for 90 minutes, the result could have been entirely different.
