Liverpool playmaker Alberto Aquilani has received the support of team mate Javier Mascherano after finally breaking into the first XI at Anfield.
It's been a long time coming for the Italian international. A summer signing by Rafa Benitez, he has struggled to shake off an ankle injury following his £20million switch from Roma.
But now fit and ready at last, Aquilani was impressive during Liverpool's midweek Champions League defeat at the hands of Fiorentina.
The 25-year-old has been charged with the responsibility of filling Xabi Alonso's boots following the Spaniard's departure to Real Madrid in the summer, and with Liverpool struggling currently, he will certainly have his work cut out.
However, Mascherano is confident that the Italian maestro can do just that and become a fan favourite at Anfield.
"We have to forget Alonso. You cannot find two players doing the same things in the world," said Mascherano. "Aquilani will give us everything he can and if he is fit he will be really good for us.
"Now little by little he'll increase his confidence and learn about
English football, because it's totally different, but I think he will
be really good for Liverpool."
