Liverpool full-back Andrea Dossena would welcome a return to his homeland to join to Serie A outfit AS Roma in January, according to his agent.
The 28-year-old has struggled to make an impact since his £7million move from Udinese in the summer of 2008, and has made just 29 appearances for the Reds.
In recent months, Dossena has expressed his desire to move back to Italy in the winter transfer window in a bid to get first-team football under his belt and try to earn a place in Marcello Lippi's Azzurri World Cup squad.
Napoli had made their interest known during the summer, and almost signed him in August, but a deal failed to materialuse, and now the Giallorossi appear to have entered the running to capture his signature.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is almost certain to be willing to let Dossena go as he looks to raise funds for his own January spending, and will aim to recoup most of the money shelled out on the Italian 18 months ago.
He is expected to make a rare start for the Reds in their final UEFA Champions League group game against Fiorentina on Wednesday night, which he may see as a chance to advertise his abilities to potential Serie A suitors.
"He will be playing his 30th game for Liverpool against Fiorentina. If from now until January we see he is no longer required by the club then we will evaluate other scenarios," his agent, Federico Pastorello, told Radio Kiss Kiss.
"Roma? We are delighted Dossena is valued by a coach like Claudio Ranieri. We are not worried about the money, what's important is that he is physically well."
