Birmingham City midfielder Lee Carsley has accused Liverpool striker David Ngog of diving to win a penalty, calling the Frenchman 'a cheat' and his actions 'embarrassing'.
Blues boss Alex McLeish also claimed the youngster dived to win his side a controversial penalty, converted by captain Steven Gerrard to rescue a point for the home side in a 2-2 draw on Monday night.
The Reds looked to be heading for seventh defeat in nine games before Ngog went flying in the penalty area, despite absolutely no contact from midfield enforcer Carsley.
The Republic of Ireland international was furious with referee Peter Walton’s decision to hand the Reds and their under-fire boss Rafa Benitez a much-needed life-line, calling the decision 'a joke'. "I was absolutely nowhere near him," Carsley told the Liverpool Daily Post. "It's a joke. I knew I didn't touch him and I said to the referee to book me or send me off, it would have made me feel better.
"I'm sure he (Ngog) has got a family, well if I went home having done that I’d be embarrassed. "You're supposed to be teaching your kids an example and that is just an embarrassing case of cheating."
Former Rangers boss McLeish also slammed the 20-year-old forward's actions which cost his side three points, after an impressive performance on Merseyside. "Ngog has dived to win his team a penalty, it happens and has done for years," McLeish told BBC Radio 5 live. "The referee Peter Walton didn't get that one right, and when he looks at it again I am sure he will agree."
In the latest diving row to hit the game, following the furore surrounding Eduardo's tumble against Celtic, the spotlight will be once again thrown on player simulation.
While UEFA used video evidence to ban the Croatia international for two games, before farcically overturning the decision, it is unlikely the FA will take such an extreme measure against Ngog.
