Leicester City chairman Milan Mandaric has given former Tottenham and Barcelona midfielder Edgar Davids a 24 hour deadline to decide whether he wants to move to the Walkers Stadium.
David, 36, is a free agent having left Ajax in 2008 after apparently bringing down the curtain down on his illustrious career at the conclusion of a brief second spell with the Dutch giants, but may now be tempted out of retirement.
Foxes boss Nigel Pearson has giving his backing to the pursuit of 'The Pitbull', who is believed to have been offered a deal until the end of the season worth £20,000-a-week by the Championship outfit.
The veteran of two European Championships and one World Cup with the Oranje, Davids won the UEFA Champions League with Ajax in 1995 and has twice been a losing finalist in the competition.
The combative midfielder was once described as "my one-man engine room" by then Juventus coach Marcello Lippi, and has previous experience of playing in England, having enjoyed two seasons at Spurs between 2005 and 2007.
Leicester are already involved in a promotion
push back to the English top0flight, and Davids would bring a wealth of
experience were the move to materialise, which Mandaric still considers
a 50-50 likelihood.
"The offer has been made. We have given him 24 hours to respond. At the moment, I’m not sure where we are with it," he is quoted as saying in The Daily Mirror.
"I don’t know - nor have I been given - any indication one way or the other. I would say it’s 50-50 at the moment. By today (Wednesday), we should find out more."
