Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson has confirmed the Championship outfit are in talks to sign former Juventus, Barcelona and Tottenham midfielder Edgar Davids.
The Foxes are keen to tempt Davids, who earned the nickname 'The Pitbull' for his combative playing style, out of retirement after he hung up his boots following the end of his contract at Ajax in 2008.
The 36-year-old is believed to be keen on a return to England after enjoying two seasons at Spurs between 2005-07, and is reportedly seeking £20,000-a-week in wages plus a large percentage of his image rights.
Portsmouth are also reported to be weighing up a move for the midfield dynamo, but Pearson is hopeful he can persuade the Dutchman to move to the Walkers Stadium.
"When players become available, if they are the right players for us then we investigate it," Pearson said.
"There has been interest but after that I am not in a position to comment further. There is nothing to elaborate on at the moment.
"There has been interest in both directions, but whether it comes to anything is another story."
Davids began his career in his homeland with Ajax in 1991 and went on to win the European Cup with the Dutch giants in 1995, before going on to play for AC Milan, Juventus and Barcelona.
He could now be about to add the name of Leicester City to his glittering CV, with the Foxes currently eighth in the Championship, just three points behind leaders West Brom.
