Championship: Saturday 'Highlights'

ExtraFootie's Robert Brady assesses Saturday's action in the Championship football as Ipswich suffer yet more late heartache, Cardiff produce another stunning performance and Leroy Lita has the last laugh.

Game of the Day - Barnsley 2-1 Ipswich. 11 games and counting that Roy Keane's men have failed to register a win in the Championship this season as another injury-time goal proves their downfall. The Tractor Boys had looked set for a point after Liam Rosenior had cancelled out Ian Hume's 25-yard thunderbolt, until Jon Macken popped up with winner. Tactic boards withing a five mile radius of Oakwell beware!

Performance of the Day - Watford 0-4 Cardiff. The Bluebirds followed up their 6-1 hammering of Derby in midweek with another stunning victory at Vicarage Road to remind us all why they are among the favourites for promotion this season. The Hornets simply had no answer to Jay Bothroyd and Co. as they produced a wonderful attacking display.

Upset of the Day - Crystal Palace 4-1 Blackpool. Not an 'upset' as such, but Neil Warnock's men scoring four goals past the Seasiders will certainly make people sit up and take notice. Blackpool are the only team to have beaten Newcastle in the league this season but were never in the races at Selhurst Park as Palace make it seven points from a possible nine this week.

Player of the Day - Dean Gerken. The Bristol City goalkeeper was in superb form as he denied top-of-the-table Newcastle United time and time again with a number of 'worldies' as Paul Merson would say at St James' Park. Luck was certainly on his side when he was beaten, as Marlon Harewood, Steven Taylor and Kevin Nolan all saw efforts crash against the woodwork.

Donkey of the Day - Q.P.R. duo Ben Watson and Martin Rowlands came extremely close to being bestowed with this honour after being sent off against Swansea but fortunately enough for them Watford keeper Scott Loach produced an absolute howler! 17-year-old Ben Matthews flight a routine long ball into the box from his own half, but Loach inexplicably lost flight of the ball and was lobbed…Loach you donkey!

Goal of the Day - Leroy Lita. The Middlesbrough striker finished off a lovely move started by Gary O'Neil in his own penalty area before spinning two clueless Reading defenders and slotting home past Adam Federici. The result increase the woes of the Royals at the Madejski Stadium and stick two fingers up to his old club for whom he left during the summer.

Talking Point of the Day - Ipswich's woes continue after yet another game without a win which leaves them rooted to the bottom of the Championship table and five points from safety. Keane spent £8million during the summer and many backed the Tractor Boys for promotion. 'Keano' walked out at the Stadium of Light, it may not be too long before he opts to make the same decision at Portman Road.

Team of the Day
(4-3-3) - Gerken (Bristol City), McEveley (Derby), Hudson (Preston), Moxey (Derby), Meite (West Brom); Clingan (Coventry), O'Neil (Boro'), Whittingham (Cardiff), Hume (Barnsley), Bothroyd (Cardiff), Lita (Boro')
