Premier League Preview: Chelsea v Everton

Chelsea host Everton at Stamford Bridge hoping to put their defeat at Manchester City last weekend firmly behind them.

The Premier League leaders were sent crashing back down to earth last Saturday when they suffered their third loss of the season at the City of Manchester Stadium.

The 2-1 reversal was all the more surprising given the fact that many had believed that the Blues had all but proved their status as the unstoppable force this season after crushing Arsenal 3-0 seven days prior.

A 2-2 draw at home to Cypriot outfit Apoel Nicosia in the UEFA Champions League in midweek was perhaps further proof that The Blues are far from invincible. Ancelotti however, will be desperate for victory at home to a struggling Everton.

Everton come into the match on the back of a thrilling 2-2 draw with fourth place Tottenham, nevertheless, the Toffees’ leaky rear-guard is sure to worry coach David Moyes ahead of the clash at Stamford Bridge, who has seen his side already concede 27 goals in 15 top-flight matches, this term - that's almost two a game.

Team News:

Chelsea will be without midfield powerhouse Michael Essien who suffered a torn hamstring during the Blues’ 2-2 draw with Apoel Nicosia on Tuesday.

Midfielder Deco will also be missing due to a family illness, while Brazilian defender Alex (thigh) and Salomon Kalou (thigh) are also sidelined.

Full-back Jose Bosingwa will be out for upto three months with a long-term knee injury.

Everton will be without suspended midfielder Tim Cahill after the Aussie international received his fifth booking against Spurs last weekend.

Centre-half Joseph Yobo has been ruled out for four weeks with a hamstring problem but the return of Johnny Heitinga from suspension provides a rare boost for the Toffees.

Striker Louis Saha is set to start against the side he netted against in last season’s FA Cup final.

Likely Line-Ups; Star Man:

Chelsea (4-4-2)
: Cech, Terry, A Cole, Carvalho, Ivanovic, Lampard, Ballack, Mikel, J Cole, Anelka, Drogba.

Everton (4-4-2): Howard, Neill, Heitinga, Hibbert, Baines, Pienaar, Fellaini, Rodwell, Bilyaletdinov, Yakubu, Saha.

ExtraFootie Prediction: Chelsea 2-0 Everton. The Blues will be keen to get back to winning ways and have proved formidable opposition at home meaning an injury-hit Everton will have their work cut out in West London
