Everton chief executive Robert Elstone has confirmed the club are in talks to bring USA international striker Landon Donovan to Goodison Park on loan from Los Angeles Galaxy.
As ExtraFootie told you on Wednesday, Toffees boss David Moyes has identified the 27-year-old as a possible signing target in the New Year as he looks to bolster his injury hit squad for the second half of the season.
Moyes has enjoyed success with loaned strikers from the MLS before, signing
Brian McBride for a brief but productive spell during his first full
season in charge at Goodison Park.
Donovan scored 15 goals in 29 games for Galaxy last season and was named MLS' Most Valuable Player after helping Bruce Arena's men to the
MLS Cup final, where they were beaten on penalties by Real Salt Lake.
But with the Major League Soccer season now finished, Everton are keen to strike a deal similar to the one which will see Donovan's team-mate David Beckham head back to AC Milan next month. "Landon is a player David Moyes has identified as someone he would like to bring to the club," Elstone told the club's official website.
"We are working to make that happen and hope we can reach agreement soon with all the appropriate parties."
If negotiations prove successful, Donovan, who is set to captain his country at the World Cup when USA will meet England, could join his new team-mates on January 2nd before heading back to Los Angeles in March in time for the new MLS campaign.
